Artist Bill Walko has done some really nifty images. Check out his Deviantart page. He's got quite a few really nice Teen Titans illustrations and I was DELIGHTED to see his take on The Power Squad, the aborted all-female super team that I discussed here.
Looks like I'm not the only one who found this idea delicious! Here are a couple more images from his page that I particularly enjoyed!

Modernized Wonder Twins!
The Spider Friends!
The Herald and Bumble Bee! (This was later integrated into a larger Teen Titans group scene, which you can see on his site.)
Best of all... Jem & The Holograms!
This one is entitled "Who Is He Kissing:"
I like how Rio actually looks Latino here! All of his stuff is super adorbz! I think I'm actually going to order prints of a couple of these!

Lady Biznazz

First up, this image of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman popped up yesterday and basically no one gives a shit. I certainly don't. I just hate these Nolan Batmovies. I hate how boringly realistic they are. What I love about Captain America and Thor is how they embrace their source material and don't apologize for it. They're realistic to a degree, but are colorful and fun at the same time. But anyhoo, as for Catwoman, I mean, she's just wearing black clothes. That's it. It's not as stylized as Michelle Pfeifer's cut-up raincoat from Batman Returns. It's not as stylish as Julie Newmar's (et.al.) from the 60s. It's not a purple dress or catsuit. It's not as functional looking as Darwyn Cooke's design from the most recent comics. It's just, like, a black motorcycle suit with high tech goggles and apparently a flared domino mask that does, in fact, look like the 60s version. I.e., it's perfect for the Nolan Batmovies. Moving on!
Artist Kelly Turnbull took this alternate cover for Justice League #1 (left) and Wonder Woman's ridiculous pose and depicted her co-stars in both costumes that mimicked hers and in the exact same pose. I didn't quite get how sexual it was that her lasso was hanging between her legs, until I saw the guys in the same pose. DC really seems to be stepping backward in time, with its recent handling of its female characters. I hope it's just a coincidence and not truly indicative of how they plan to move forward. Also, I don't know what's going on with Wonder Woman and her trunks. First every image of her in the upcoming comics featured her in long tights, now all of a sudden, every image has her in shorts, including artwork that had already been shown! It's been re-done to depict her in shorts. But why those stupid navy boots?! I HATE them!

Finally, from DC Women Kicking Ass, and interview with Jack C. Harris, DC's go-to writer for female heroes in the 70s (Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Isis) wherein he reveals that around 1980, he and artist Trevor Von Eeden pitched a team book that would have starred Supergirl, Batgirl, Vixen and The Enchantress!
This would have been my favorite comic book EVER had it happened! I already loved Supergirl and Batgirl. I was never aware of The Enchantress until she popped up in the mid-80s in Suicide Squad, but she was a minor magical character that Harris had used as a villain in Supergirl. Vixen, at this point, I don't believe had ever actually appeared in a comic, since hers was aborted before it saw release. I think this period was before she finally popped up in Superman. But we all know how I love the sistahs, so you know I'd have been all over her, if this book had happened!
You've got a nice mix of powers there. Batgirl and Supergirl would have filled essentially the same roles as their male counterparts do in the Justice League, basically Batgirl = Smarts, Supergirl = Power. The Enchantress brings a magical angle and Vixen mystical, animal-based powers. I think they'd have blended well together. (Also, it would have been the most racially balanced super team around, since Enchantress is Asian and Vixen is black.)
The name Power Squad is generic as all hell, though. Could have been why DC didn't pick up the proposal? I will say at least, that it isn't some silly female centric name like Girl Gang or Sheroes or Femme Fighters. But it just isn't "Pow!" enough. If I couldn't see the cover and that it was an all-girl team, if I just had to base my interest on the title alone, I probably would have passed.
Maybe DC passed simply because they thought women couldn't sell comics. I think, at the time, that was kind of true. Supergirl had her own book off and on, but it was inconsistent and Batgirl had her own strip that ran in other Batbooks, but never her own series. Wonder Woman was the only one who had her own series that ran nonstop and I've read that it wasn't that big a seller, it's just that DC HAD to produce a monthly WW comic to retain rights to the character. But combine two household names like Supergirl and Batgirl and add two more female characters to the mix, I think that might have gained more attention than the characters could on their own!
I dunno. This whole concept captivates me. For one thing, and not to sound arrogant, it's unusual that there is an idea like this that I don't already know about! I love it when I can get schooled on comics from my era. And the whole "what if?" aspect... what if this book had been successful? Would things have turned out differently for Supergirl and Batgirl in the 80s? Would Supergirl have survived Crisis and would Batgirl never have become paralyzed... and therefore never become Oracle and therefore never founded the first REAL all-female super team Birds of Prey?! (Okay, so in that case, maybe it's best that this never really happened...) It's just neat, that's all. I know I'd have loved this comic as a kid, but it never happened, so...

Fun discovery!

WTFriday?! - More Post-Flashpoint News

Well, since my last post, more news has surfaced about the upcoming relaunch of the entire line of DC Comics. #1 is that Nightwing will be getting his own book back... it is possible that they'll pull some shenanigans and it won't be Dick Grayson, but I kinda doubt that, what with all the other shenanigans they're pulling, that they'd like, y'know, slip Jason Todd into the role or something. So I predict Dick will be Nightwing again, since with like 25 years under his belt, he's established himself pretty firmly in that identity. This negates my guess that the original Teen Titans would be returning to their old sidekick roles in keeping with the Young Justice cartoon. Which is fine by me.

I also assume this means Tim Drake will drop the "Red" and just return to being just plain Robin. Damian Wayne proved pretty popular (for such a nasty little shit), but I'm guessing he'll either be negated or he'll be like five years old or something. Sadly, I think the same goes for the various Batgirls that are not Barbara Gordon.

DC's solicitation for The Flash #1: Rising superstar Francis Manapul, fresh off his acclaimed run on THE FLASH with Geoff Johns, makes his comics writing debut in THE FLASH #1, sharing both scripting and art duties with Brian Buccellato. The Flash knows he can’t be everywhere at once, but what happens when he faces an all-new villain who can? The cover to issue #1 is by Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato.

Hmmm, well it's no surprise that this Flash is Barry Allen, as his was the most unexpected and controversial resurrection in comics since Bucky over at Marvel. They certainly wouldn't reintroduce him and just cast him aside. But that begs the question, what about Wally West?

Wally has served as The Flash for almost as long as Dick Grayson has been Nightwing. He was featured on the Justice League animated series. What are they going to do with him? Rumor has it, he'll be spearheading a book called Speed Force. Once again, this disproves my guess that DC would actually use this as an opportunity to simplify their continuity and establish that there is just one of each big name character. I mean, I love Wally, not to mention all the various Green Lanterns, but it's confusing. This was the reason for the very first Crisis in 1985, to establish that there is just one Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, etc. We've got three Flashes running around right now (pun intended) plus Kid Flash, Jessie Quick, XS, Wally's kids... eh whatever, what do I know?

And speaking of the Green Lanterns, they're all safe too. Hal will continue headlining the main Green Lantern book, Guy and John will be featured in GL Corps and Kyle will be leading The New Guardians, a team composed of Lanterns from each spectrum, including I would assume St. Walker (below), one of my favorite characters from the Lantern pantheon.
Guy Gardner will also be featured in Justice League International. Here is DC's solicit: A team of internationally-drafted superheroes fight each other and their bureaucratic supervisors as much as they do global crime in JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL #1 from writer Dan Jurgens and artist Aaron Lopresti. The cover to issue #1 is by Aaron Lopresti.

Hmmm, Vixen. And Fire & Ice. I am a fan. I'll check this book out. I expected Blue Beetle to be included... one of them at any rate. Maybe that's coming up? However, I think Vixen should be in the MAIN Justice League, not some off-shoot. (The lady in the black and gold costume is apparently a new character.)

DC is making it hard to stick by my "not buying monthly comics anymore" declaration when they keep sticking creative dream teams on these books like Wonder Woman which will now be drawn by the absolutely fantastic Cliff Chiang! Solicit: New York Times bestselling writer Brian Azzarello, author of The Joker and 100 Bullets, teams up with the immensely talented artist Cliff Chiang (Neil Young’s Greendale) for WONDER WOMAN #1, an exciting new series starring the DC Universe’s greatest superheroine. The cover to issue #1 is by Cliff Chiang.

Cliff Chiang draws some of the best women in comics! He's up there with Amanda Conner! He even makes this ridiculous Jim Lee-designed mess passable. But are they fucking kidding me with those goddamn navy boots? Fuck! Have you learned nothing, DC?!

Geoff Johns, one of comics’ greatest storytellers, reunites with GREEN LANTERN and BRIGHTEST DAY collaborator Ivan Reis to bring you a thrilling new take on the fan-favorite hero of the sea in AQUAMAN #1. The cover to issue #1 is by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado.

Johns loves Aquaman and his cast and did a fantastic job depicting them in Brightest Day and Ivan Reis is just amazing, so... you couldn't ask for a better team to assign to an ongoing Aquaman book! Once again, I just can't NOT buy this book! It's everything I could hope for as an Aquafan! (But to quote RuPaul, "Don't fuck it up.")

I forgot to mention this last time, but it seems like DC has just decided to abandon the name "Captain Marvel" since they can't use it on anything they release, not even toys and such. Fun fact: In his very first appearance, the hero-that-cannot-be-released-as-Captain Marvel was actually named Captain Thunder. DC also attempted to launch characters named Captain Thunder at various times, including a black version of Captain Marvel. So now... they've just decided the Shazam-powered hero is called just that, Captain Thunder. This character may or may not be in the new Justice League, but it seems highly likely that he will get his own series. (Also, everyone is talking about how He-Man-ish that transformation sequence looks. "I have the powerrrrrrrrrr!" I mean look at Mr. Tawky Tawny in Battle Cat Armor!!!)

It looks like when they said they were trying to diversify their ranks, that they didn't just mean that Cyborg was now going to be in the Justice League. Another hero of color, Mr. Terrific is getting his own book.

The world’s third-smartest man – and one of its most eligible bachelors – uses his brains and fists against science gone mad in MISTER TERRIFIC #1, the new series from writer Eric Wallace and artist Roger Robinson. The cover to issue #1 is by J.G. Jones.

I am not familiar with the creators on this book, but I have long thought Mr. T, rotten name and all, should star in his own book. He's like Black Batman! He was even banging Batman's ex, Sasha Bordeaux! I wonder if that will change, however, since they made a point of stating that he was an "eligible bachelor"... which I find odd in a listing for a super hero comic. I hope that this doesn't mean the book is in any way like The Bachelor. Or do I?

When this announcement was first made, they stressed that this wasn't a hard reboot from the ground up, that they were just stepping back a few years so that the characters were younger (translation: single and ready to mingle), but their solicitation for Firestorm clearly indicated that this IS a hard reboot with no connection to established continuity.

Welcome to a major new vision of the Nuclear Man as writers Ethan Van Sciver and Gail Simone team up with artist Yildiray Cinar to deliver THE FURY OF FIRESTORM #1. Jason Rusch and Ronnie Raymond are two high school students, worlds apart – and now they’re drawn into a conspiracy of super science that bonds them forever in a way they can’t explain or control. The cover to issue #1 is by Ethan Van Sciver.

It LOOKS like Jason and Ronnie are two separate Firestorms (and who is that in the background?), which if that is the case, sucks, because the two-people-fused-together thing was the main thing that made Firestorm unique. And those costumes look awful all in one solid color. Boo! Did you learn nothing from Superman Red and Superman Blue?

There were also solicits for Hawkman, Green Arrow and Captain Atom, none of which I care about, so I won't really discuss them too in-depth. Hawkman looks stupid. Hate the new helmet and no word on Hawkgirl/woman. Green Arrow sounds like Green Arrow. Captain Atom sounds like Dr. Manhattan. And there's a new anthology book called Braver and Bolder, which features Deadman on the first cover. Keep in mind there are going to be 52 new books, so this is just the beginning.

They did say there will be a Teen Titans and Birds of Prey, but no specifics. I'm guess in the case of Birds it's because they don't want to ruin the "surprise" (that everyone already knows about) of Barbara Gordon returning as Batgirl. And who knows about Titans. I really hope they leave that as close to the way it is now as possible, Robin (Tim), Superboy, Wonder Girl (Cassie), Kid Flash (Bart)... I'd add Aqualad.

Just to keep track, that's...
1. Justice League (or America, presumably)
2. Action Comics
3. Detective Comics
4. Wonder Woman
5. Aquaman
6. Green Lantern
7. GL Corps
8. GL: New Guardians
9. Green Arrow
10. Hawkman
11. Flash
12. Captain Atom
13. Braver & Bolder
14. Nightwing
15. Batgirl
16. Justice League International
17. Mr. Terrific
18. Justice Society of America
19. Firestorm
20. Teen Titans
21. Birds of Prey

Also, rumored/presumed:
22. Speed Force
23. Shazam/Captain Thunder

I image a 5,035th revamp of Legion of Super Heroes is in the mix. But geez, so much for that diversity declaration. ONE African American hero getting his own book? (Okay, so Jason Rusch is HALF a hero and John Stewart is sharing Corps with Guy, so that's HALF a book, so add them together to get ONE additional, so that equals TWO.) And Cyborg and Vixen are parts of teams, so that doesn't count. And only TWO females on top of that, Wonder Woman and Batgirl! I get that there are more titles to be announced. I assume Batwoman is still in the works, so that's one more woman and a LGBT character on top of that. I would assume that Supergirl will also be getting her own series. I'm not sure how the sales on Zatanna were, so she may or may not be coming back in her own title. Black Canary will, I'm sure, be part of Birds of Prey. It would have been really bold for DC to make the new Captain Thunder the original 70s African American version. If there's a time to take some chances, it's now. I'd have loved to have seen Vixen in her own book or Dr. Light in the JLA or JLI lineup.

Oh, I almost forgot! Speaking of female heroes, they have declared that ALL of their females will now be dressing more modestly. I'm not quite sure what their definition of modest is, as Wonder Woman's suit is still the skimpiest in the Justice League. But THANK HERA, that we'll soon be rid of this:
Not to mention this...
And this...
But what about *GASP*, THIS?!:
Would they really cover up the most famous breastestess in all of comics?! Or what about Black Canary?
Those fishnets are the closest thing she has to a signature logo! Ditto Zatanna!
What equals skimpy? Honestly, not to go off on a whole different topic, but let's look at Supergirl for instance.
As drawn by her suit's designer Michael Turner, she looks like a mangy crack whore who's never eaten in her life and loves the shit outta some mascara. And hair bleach.
As drawn by her current illustrator, Jamal Igle, she looks perfectly healthy and modest. Her skirt is nearly knee-length and she wears "bike shorts" underneath, so no Britney/Paris/Lindsay peakaboo moments. He even lengthened her outrageously dated belly tee to cover more. (If only they could ditch that look altogether and give her a full shirt!) I mean, yes she has some skin exposed, but she's Supergirl and doesn't need outer garments to protect her. I don't really see anything wrong with this costume, minus the belly tee. And look at those lustrous locks as compared to the Turner illustration where she apparently has straw growing out of her head! She could do a Pantene commercial now! (Sorry, did this just turn into me bashing a dead artist... yeah, sorry, but I gotsta call 'em as I see 'em!)

Since I'm just meandering all over the place now, you know who needs a helluva redemption? Mary Marvel!
Will she be named Mary Thunder now? Hmmm. But anyway, once the purest, most innocent of super heroines, she became corrupted when she embraced the powers of Black Adam.
And was then possessed by the masochistic DeSaad and turned into this:
I mean... how... why... I mean, point A to Point Fucked Up. I really felt like her character had been just ruined for life, but with all this rebooting, she needs a fresh start like WOAH! Hmmm, that reminds me, another Shazam-related character, Isis could potentially get a fresh start as well. Maaaaan, an all-new Isis comic book? Sign me up!
A woman and she's Middle Eastern! Two Birds, DC! Just sayin'!

Wonder Wednesday

Hodgepodge Day! First I was browsing some sites that I normally buy shirts from, but I was actually looking for a bag. I think I'ma give messenger bags a go again. Tote bags are too hard to carry to and from work. I was hoping for a Wonder Woman one, but no avail. I may go with Captain America.

Anyhoo, came across this stupid tee shirt: First of all the design sucks. Why is The GIANT Flash running ON THE EARTH? Second, when did The Joker and The Riddler join the Justice League?! Answer: NEVER! Worst super hero shirt ever!
This one is kinda fun, in that it includes a lot of random characters, many of whom are women! There's Supergirl, Huntress, Vixen, Zatanna, Big Barda, Hawkgirl, Wonder Woman, Black Canary and Powergirl, plus my sexy ginger Guy Gardner (oddly placed next to another ginger, Red Arrow). Also included are less-than-superstars, Black Lightning, Red Tornado and Captain Atom. I'd call it subversive, except I'm not sure if the person who designed it actually knows who they all are or if they just cropped random pics and threw them on this shirt. The artwork on this is provided by the talented Ed Benes, as is the following:
Once again, loving the love... the bottom row is all ladies, BC, WW and Vixen, plus you get Hawkgirl on top, next to Black Lightning and Red Tornado. Sigh... then in the middle you get Batman and Superman and, APPARENTLY, the new third of the DC Trinity, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)! I mean, good for him, but fuck what DC is doing to Wonder Woman, basically dethroning her and giving Hal her spot! All based on that movie! Kinda bullshit!

In other comic-related news, check out this AWESOME Funny Or Die trailer starring Rose McGowan as Betty Boop!

Hilarious!

And finally, Forbes released a ranking of the richest pop culture characters:
Hilarious! I always wondered about that, but shouldn't Charles Xavier be on the list. The X-Men are constantly trashing those damn Blackbirds and he just keeps buying more! This would make a KILLER comic! Chuck Bass plus Scrooge McDuck plus Mr. Monopoly (I thought his name was Old Uncle Pennybags or something like that) plus Montgomery Burns plus Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark?! Also, I LOVE that Jed Clampett out-riched those last two! Ha ha!

Yeah, so that brings Hodgepodge Day to a close!

Wonder Wednesday - The Vixen Is A Female Fox!

Today I'm showcasing a character I mentioned last week, one of DC's characters with a whole lot of potential but that so far hasn't quite reached the heights she is capable of, Vixen!
Vixen, in an alternate universe, would occupy a much more prestigious place in comics history... the first black female super hero to star in her own series! This was what DC had in mind for her, but her book never saw print as it was part of what is popularly referred to as the DC Implosion, a rash cancellation of 20 existing books and five that had yet to see their first issues hit stands (including The Vixen).

In addition to Vixen's own stories, her book was set to include a back-up series starring Teen Titans' Harlequin, a character who at various times claimed to be the daughter of The Joker, The Penguin, The Riddler and Catwoman, until it was revealed that she was "actually" the daughter of Two-Face, Harvey Dent. (This was later dis-proven.) For copyright reasons, the canceled comics were published in a black and white "ashcan" that was never made available commercially and exists strictly for archival reasons.

The Vixen comic was created by Gerry Conway and Bob Oskner and the first story was entitled "The Vixen Is A Lady Fox." Vixen is established as possessing the ancient Tantu Totem, which grants its wearer the power of all animals, so long as they use their powers to protect the innocent, anything from the strength of an elephant to the swimming ability of a dolphin to the speed of a cheetah. Growing up in a small African village, Mari's father, Reverend Richard Jiwe possessed this legendary amulet and was killed by his half-brother General Maksai. Mari fled to American and adopted the name Mari Jiwe McCabe and became a fashion model. On a trip back to Africa, she stole back the Tantu Totem and became The Vixen!

Gerry Conway went on to introduce Vixen in Action Comics #251. Initially, she is at odds with Superman, after she steals a truckload of furs and drives the truck into the water to ruin them. But later, the two heroes team up against a common foe, poachers in India.

As you can see, Vixen's original costume, which is the one she was supposed to wear in her own series, was kinda... odd. The "fox face" mask isn't very attractive... she looks kinda like a bunny, to be honest. And the baby blue/gold color scheme doesn't scream "animal powers." In fact the blue "bathing suit" over gold tights just screams "Solid Gold Dancer" to me! Her Tantu Totem is much more ornate in this version than it would later be depicted.
Gerry Conway refused to give up on Vixen and brought her back to team up with Superman a second time in DC Comics Presents #68, a series devoted to Superman team-up stories... typically fellow headliners, so Vixen was actually fairly lucky that DC allowed her to co-star in this book versus a more established hero. She's wearing the same kinda silly outfit, rendered by the legendary Curt Swan, with even more pronounced "ears" on her mask, making even more bunny-liscious. This story had Vixen's nephew (???... I need to dig this issue out... I don't recall her ever having siblings!) getting sucked into an arcade video game (back when those existed) by General Cerebus and her once again teaming with Superman to rescue him.

I don't know if the DC Comics Presents appearance was meant in some way to test the waters to see if fans wanted to see more of her.

Meanwhile... in another comic book... Gerry Conway was also writing Justice League of America, as he had for a long stretch of time, but as comic fans got older and comics themselves became more complex, writers and editors of the biggest name heroes started getting very territorial, so that Conway found himself struggling to keep the biggest name heroes in JLA, which was basically DC's flagship book. He CERTAINLY couldn't do anything drastic with the big name heroes... any huge events for them had to happen in their own books! So more and more, he focused on characters that didn't have their own books, placing characters like Black Canary and Green Arrow in more stories than Wonder Woman and Green Lantern. Either way, sales of the book were slipping. Marvel's 70s relaunch of The Uncanny X-Men created a new precedent with its sophisticated storytelling, mature themes and cutting-edge characterization. In 1980, DC launched The New Teen Titans, also a much more sophisticated comic than had traditionally been published and it was a smash, quickly outselling every other DC comic book by a huge margin.

It was decided that the Justice League needed a makeover and the book was relaunched. EVERY member with their own series was fired, leaving only Aquaman (who at the time was still starring on the Super Friends cartoon and therefore a bigger name than say, Green Arrow or Hawkman), Zatanna, Elongated Man and the recently-returned Martian Manhunter. These established heroes were then joined by four new, younger heroes. There was Steel, the grandson of Steel the Indestructible Man (more commonly today known as Commander Steel). Commander Steel had also starred in his own series that was wiped out by the DC Implosion.

There was also Vibe a stereotypical Mexican-American teen gang member/break dancer who spoke in what today seems like a racist accent. ("Chu guys are the Chustice League?!") As well as Gypsy, who had invisibility powers and bore more than a passing resemblance to Cyndi Lauper who was big at the time. (She was clearly meant to be the Kitty Pryde of the team.)

Then there was Vixen, and speaking of MTV stars, who was given a hairstyle that looked like Tina Turner's crossed with Wolverine's! She was given a sleeker costume that more accurately capture the "animal" nature of her powers.

This Justice League established a base in Detroit, MI, leading them to forevermore be referred to as Justice League Detroit. Justice League Detroit was a complete failure. The reason fans read JLA was to get all the big name heroes in one book! No one cared about these new-comers. Vixen and Gypsy were the only ones that seemed to appeal to fans, so when this incarnation of JLA was canceled, they both managed to survive, whereas Steel and Vibe were both killed off. (It was later revealed that Steel survived... barely, inside of a healing chamber, in a coma with most of his body destroyed... then their enemy Despero returned and killed him all the way.)

Justice League was relaunched with only the Martian Manhunter returning. Vixen wandered over to the Suicide Squad book where she and a handful of other government sponsored heroes teamed up with super villains to carry out dangerous "suicide" missions around the globe. The villains agreed to go on these missions in exchange for their freedom. In addition to adventuring, Mari began seeing her fellow Squad member Bronze Tiger.

She kind of meandered around the DC Universe for a while. She teamed up with Animal Man and discovered that her powers may actually be from aliens! She popped up in most of the big crossovers as well. She briefly worked with the Birds of Prey.

At one point, she adopted this nondescript purple costume and cut that crazy hair. But like her very first costume, does this really convey her powers? It's just a jumpsuit! It's one step above street clothes.
Writers continued tweaking her powers. Recently, she realized she could fly like a bird. (As stated previously, I don't like this change.) She also discovered that she had telepathy, because The Flash's foe Gorilla Grodd does!
She was included in the lineup for the animated Justice League Unlimited series. Her look on the show is basically her JLDetroit costume, but without the dated Tina Turner hair. The "teeth" on her necklace and belt play to both her African history and her animal powers.

Thanks to JLU, Vixen received her first action figure!

I believe that her appearances on JLU lead to her being included in the Justice League recently. She definitely is enjoying more popularity than she ever had before. She's since received another action figure, a more comic book styled figure in the Justice League line from DC Direct and even a minibust!
She's been long rumored to have a DC Universe Classics figure in the works, but it has yet to materialize.
And most recently, she was featured on Batman: The Brave & The Bold, as the partner/girlfriend of B&B regular B'Wana Beast, a wacky character from the 60s who has the power to merge any two animals into one composite beast!
Unfortunately, in the comics, she's gone somewhat dormant. She was a focal character in Justice League for a while, starred in her own four-issue miniseries and even led the JLA during the Blackest Night crossover. I believe she was intended for inclusion in the current team, but that hasn't worked out.

Still, she's DC's most famous and popular black female character, so here's hoping she gets her just rewards soon!
