Change of Pace: MANic Tuesday - Chord Overstreet's Beard

Well, I actually looked at this blog's stats and noticed something remarkable.  Some of my posts get very few views, like around twenty.  Some fewer.  A lot get around 50 or so.  My MANic Monday posts get around 500.  FIVE HUNDRED!  But my Ryan Lochte post has 22,856 views right now!  So... I guess give the people what they like.  Here's more hottie action!

Chord Overstreet grew a beard and I'm not talking about Emma Roberts!

What do you prefer?  Scruffy or smooth?

TV

I don't talk much about TV, so I have a couple of TV-related topics to discuss today. First of all, there's this sitcom that I think started airing earlier this summer called Happy Endings, which is about a group of six Friends friends in their twenties. Okay, I know you THINK you've seen it all before, but this show is set in CHICAGO not New York, so it's totally different. And they hang out in a BAR not a coffee shop! And there's a gay one and a black one, so THERE! It's totally different! Okay, it's similar to the legendary Friends, but I actually like it. The characters are kind of like the ones from Seinfeld, where they are just this close to being unlikeable. So if you want an old fashioned sitcom that's not fucking terrible like all the rest, check this show out. It'll be out on DVD on September 20th, which is closer than any of us want to think about.
I fer serious made David give up tickets to tonight's Reds game to take me to see the Glee 3D movie. I know that makes me sound like a bitch, but I have Friday AND Saturday night free this weekend by some miracle and you think I'ma let him go to a fucking Reds game BOTH those nights (oh yeah, he's going tomorrow, too!) while I sit around drinking and watching The A List-New York?! FUCK THAT! Sorry! I needz to get my Gleek on!
Also, this serves as my goodbye to my beloved Chord Overstreet who won't be returning this fall as Sam, even though they JUST started the storyline where he and Mercedes were dating. (Apparently, she'll have a new fella when the series returns.)
Glee needs to get its shit together. EW did a story along those lines and I agree. First Ryan Murphy prematurely announced that Cory, Lea and Chris were being written out of the show after this season, WITHOUT informing any of them of this. This was apparently because he was planning on spinning them off into a new show, presumably where they move to New York which was heavily hinted at in the finale of last season. BUT apparently Fox wasn't down with the idea and the spin-off was scrapped and Ryan was all "Oh they're aren't necessarily leaving the series after all." (Way to piss fans off FOR NO REASON, there buddy!) But who wants to watch some high school graduates still hanging around high school?! Sad! And the whole appeal of the show is the chemistry between ALL of the characters and you can't just take some of them out of the equation. Also... honestly Kurt is THE reason I watch the show! Everything revolves around him! If he's not on it, I don't think I'll keep watching.
Then there's the atrocious Glee Project. Fox actually passed on this concept all together, which should have killed it right there, but alas, it found a home on Oxygen. Basically a gaggle of unlikeable, under-talented fame whores cover a bunch of Glee songs and one of them will actually appear in at least seven episodes of the show this season. It's really unwatchable, but I still force myself to endure it every week, I guess out of masochism. "New characters" can be hit or miss. Blaine was a hit, but if I never see Sunshine Corazon again, it'll be too soon. The problem with most of the Glee Project contestants is that they aren't "misfits." Most of the girls are "show girls" who would fit in perfectly on American Idol. The red head, big girl might have worked, but she got kicked off and they already have Lauren Zises, anyway. Alex, the flaming black queen would certainly work, so I'm kinda hoping he takes it, although rumor has it, the adorable Irish kid wins, which... what's so "outcast" about him? Nothing! He's a cutie pie with an Irish accent! He'd own that school! Also, it's kinda obvious that the producers are CLEARLY looking for a guy. Week after week, girls get cut even though they may or may not be the worst ones.
Finally we have the shit storm that is The Walking Dead. First Frank Darabont appeared to hype the show at ComiCon and then immediately afterward "stepped down" as show runner, allegedly because he couldn't keep up with the pace of producing a weekly series after only working on feature films all these years. Then rumors bubbled up that the Mad Men budget had skyrocketed and that AMC was scaling back the budgets on TWD and Breaking Bad to compensate. Turns out Darabont was FIRED, but they made sure to keep him employed long enough to appear at ComiCon.

At least the Breaking Bad folks have the ballz to complain. So far no one from TWD has said shit. (Topless Robot speculated because of the nature of the show, any cast member that complains could easily be zombie chow.) AMC has apparently made some budgetary suggestions like shoot half the scenes indoors and maybe in some cases, the cast could just HEAR zombies and not see them, to save on makeup cost. Oh that sounds just WONDERFUL! SO what that series is all about! The ironic thing is that TWD is AMC's biggest hit! Its ratings are BETTER than that of Mad Men, even! ALL of this sounds horrible. I am concerned and I think I have a right to be. This sounds REALLY ominous!

EXTRA: Hunger Games Casting

Winter's Bone star Jennifer Lawrence is OFFICIALLY Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games movie. I don't have an opinion. Well, I mean... I haven't SEEN Winter's Bone, so... all I have to go by are pictures. I mean, she looks okay. I assume she'll dye her hair darker for the role. Winter's Bone is supposed to be really good. It didn't look appealing to me, but I may check it out now.

In my mind, Katniss seemed very dark, olive skin, dark hair... plus she is completely without vanity. She has no concern or even awareness of what she looks like. In a way, she kinda always looked a bit dirty in my mind, but not in a bad way, just in a "Oh, I have dirt on my face. Don't care!" kinda way. I'm okay with this. I may have leaned more toward someone with darker skin, but at this stage, I'm just glad it's not Meagan Fox, at least!

So now... about the rest of the cast. Here is an article from MTV with picks for Peeta and Gale: http://hollywoodcrush.mtv.com/2011/03/18/hunger-games-peeta-gale/

Obviously, some great ideas, some fucking retarded ones. Logan Lerman as Gale? Are you fucking kidding me? Let me discuss... (Oh PS, I totally chose pics of the actors based on how hot they looked!)Hunter Parrish is allegedly a front-runner for Peeta and I'm okay with that. The one drawback is, he might be slightly too old. But he'd be a solid pick, although not my #1.Fuck Alex Pettyfer. This is just based on his breakup with Dianna Agron. He apparently cheated on her, was super controlling (he made her fire her entire management team) and is now kinda psycho stalking her. He was apparently so creepy on the set of Beastly, constantly pressuring Vanessa Hudgens to sleep with him that she could barely be in the same room with him by the end of filming! DOUCHE!!! CREEP!!! FUCK OFF!!! I will be LIVID if he is cast and... wait for it... probably won't even go see it!!! YEAH, I said it!!!
Josh Hutcherson is a contender for Peeta, but with his dark features, I can see him as Gale. Strangely I could see him in either role. Cathy thinks Peeta should be beefy, so if that's the case, he works. But stillllll... he's make a good Gale. Just sayin'.My lovely Chord Overstreet would look delectable on a giant screen... but I actually had him in mind for Finnick from Catching Fire. So I'm sticking with that. Save him for the second one.
I read one suggestion not mentioned in the MTV article and that hadn't occurred to me, William Moseley from the Narnia movies. He'd work. Not my top pick, but he's a solid choice. I'd be cool with that.

As for my pick from Day One:
Alexander Ludwig, star of some dreadful Disney movies, he, like Josh Hutcherson, is one where I've kinda had my eye on for a while in that "Oh-shit-he's-gonna-be-so-hot-aaaaaaany-day-now!!!" kinda way. That day has arrived! He's just got the perfect look... blond, gorgeous, but in a white bread, innocent kinda way. Chord Overstreet is gorgeous but TOO gorgeous for Peeta. He's DEFINITELY Finnick! Alexander is more natural everyday boy-next-door attractive.

Oh... was acting ability supposed to factor in at some point? Okay, so they're all pretty boys. But I honestly think they're all decent actors too. Josh Hutcherson in particular is great. They're ALL good, though. None is JUST a pretty face. It's not like when Hollywood tried to make Paul Walker happen. Or Casper Van Dein before that.

Now, as for Gale, the PERFECT option would be a younger Adrian Grenier, like circa Drive Me Crazy, but he's too old now and that would just be creepy. One of the top suggestions I've seen is Ethan Peck, who was on the TV version of 10 Things I Hate About You. Well... he kinda looks like a young Adrian Grenier, so... that's a plus. Like with Katniss though, I kinda want someone with olive skin. That's just how I picture him/them.A name I didn't recognize that came in #1 on Entertainment Weekly's poll was Drew Roy. He looks very close, but I'm not familiar with him, since his biggest roles have been on Hannah Montana and iCarly. He was in Secretariat, too. No further comment. But he looks a tad too baby-faced. Isn't Gale a couple years older than Katniss? Taylor Lautner was mentioned, but does ANYONE want to see that happen? No. I mean, he's pretty, but... just no.
If he beefed up, what about Joseph Gordon-Levitt? Too old? Hmmm.

It can't all be about the pretty young things, though. One of the most pivotal roles is Haymitch, the kids' mentor, a former tribute that is now a pathetic drunk.
Robert Downey Jr. has been a contender from the beginning. I can see it! He'd probably do well. But is he too big a star at this point?
I was thinking more John Goodman. I mean, he's pretty much the Haymitch I envisioned the whole time I was reading. I think he'd be perfect!

Well, more to come as more announcements are made! But those are my thoughts so far!

Tune In Tuesday 10-12-10 Glee

Last week's Glee won me back over and feeling ashamed that my affection for it ever wavered! Oh Burt Hummel! I can't even listen to Kurt's deee-gorgeous cover of "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" without tearing up! GUSH!!! Here is Kurt as Riff Raff in the Rocky Horror Glee Show. Oh Baby, why did you let them do that to you?! I guess this episode is a big deal as they are releasing a physical CD of it and iTunes has it available for pre-order. Sadly, and this tends to shock people, but I only saw it for the first time in my life like two months ago and it was on DVD so it wasn't with all the crazies, throwing rice and such. (They throw rice, right?) I dunno... I kinda don't get it. Cathy cautioned me, "This isn't good AT. ALL." I knew that. But some things are so rotten they're delicious. I guess this qualifies, but there are so many more camptastic movies out there, it seems odd that people gravitated toward this one in particular. I swear, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls is one of my five desert island DVDs! And what about Barbarella?! That one RULEZ! (Note to self, I still need to schedule a Barbarella/Flash Gordon movie night.)Finn is actually perfect for Brad.Quinn is NOT perfect for Magenta. That's more a Tina thing, wouldn't you agree?
Stamos as Eddie. K.
Okay, Chord Overstreet is a cutie pie doll baby!
I wasn't entirely sold on him, especially now that they seem to have officially declared that he WON'T be Kurt's romantic interest. Which is kinda BOO at this point. I could go for some Sam (that's his character's name... no, me neither, I just Googled it) on Kurt action! Also, ICK! In real life, he's dating that total DUDE Rumor Willis! Maybe he's gay in real life. Then again, I don't think they've officially said he won't be Kurt's romantic interest. All they've done is reveal that Kurt will have something of a gay mentor in another new character. Could we be so lucky as to have a Kurt love triangle?! That would KYK-AZZ! (I just made that up. I think I'm getting carried away with the creative spelling.)

Wait a sec... who's going to be Frankenfurter? SUE?! Please tell me it's SUE!!! NOT WILL!!! We'll see, I suppose. I should probably prepare myself for the one episode of Glee where I don't know ANY of the songs. Well... lately, I don't know all that many anyway. Like I didn't know that Paramour song from the Britney episode. Cathy's the one that told me it was BY Paramour. I thought maybe it was a track off that Blackout album that I never bought. I bought the songs for tonight's episode this morning before work, but I'm waaaaaay underwhelmed by them. But after last week's episode, they could get away with doing a whole episode devoted to Ke$ha and I'd let it slide!
