Monster High 2011

First off, I have a little announcement. Due to my commitment to sciencefiction.com , I will no longer be covering anything comic book related on this blog. At first, you may think "Wait, that's like ALL you talk about," but when you think about it, I discuss a lot more; toys, cartoons, tv shows, etc. And MANic Monday! There's always that! Don't worry, I'll still be gushing about comics, just not here. You know where to find me!

So today's topic has nothing to do with comics or science fiction... well, like barely, but it's the new Monster High dolls!

They're just starting to hit in full force, but for the past few months, they have been hard to come by! First we have Frankie Stein, the daughter of Frankenstein and his Bride. She is the star of the line, so she is shipping heavier than many of the others, which once again is a mistake, because it's not about who Mattel thinks is the star! Fans of this line want all the characters equally or they want their favorite, which may not be Frankie!

But that's not her fault! Frankie is fun! I like her hair style better than the first year doll's. She maintains the "school girl" look, this time in an argyle sweater vest and preppy patterned shirt dress. I hate her mismatched leggings. Not only is one leg silver and the other black, but they're different lengths! The devil's in the details with this line. Her plaid pumps have long bolts as heels! (A recurring theme in the line!) She's not as exciting as all-new characters, but I like her new look just fine.

Along the same lines, Cleo DeNile is the line's main "bad girl" and once again, I think that's a bungle on Mattel's part. While pretty, she's just not "monstrous!" She just looks like a normal, pretty girl! In the first year, she was packaged with Deuce Gorgon a boy doll and the pair sold dismally. The same is true of her subsequent dolls in the Dawn of the Dance and Gloom Beach assortments.

Her new look is eye-catching and maintains a similar color scheme to the first year doll. Her turquoise top reflects bandaging, as does the patterns on her arm warmers and around her knees. That's... cute, I suppose, but she's supposed to BE a mummy, not just reference one.

But anyway, she seems to have more turquoise in her hair than the previous version, however when buying her, I noticed that that varied from doll to doll, so not every one has as much turquoise as mine. Once again, great detailing! Her belt resembles an ancient Egyptian loincloth. Her bracelets are triangular, referencing the pyramids and my favorite detail, possibly out of all the dolls, her heels are tiny hourglasses!

Next up is Clawdeen Wolf, who frustratingly wears a tiger striped shirt. I seriously think the creators are confused that a wereWOLF is not a form of feline! But anyway. She sports a cute ponytail. I don't love her outfit. It's really 80s and almost UGLY! I like her purple skinny jeans, but that top is pretty gross. Is it insane to say that she just has this air of confidence that makes it work? Quite an achievement for a piece of plastic. Great details, again. Her heels are long gold talons and she has a brass-knuckles-like ring with claws on it.

Next we have Draculaura and Clawd Wolf. Let's start with Draculaura, already a favorite from the first assortment, I absolutely adore her new goth-meets-Harjuku outfit! She has that Victorian look up top with the tiny pink ribbon/tie, lace trim on her collar, frilly sleeves, then the lacy tiered lower part. The yellow and pink polka dotted tights pop wonderfully. Her shoes are super cute, with a tiny yellow button detail. Her heels are textured, but I don't think they're supposed to be anything, so that's disappointing. Her earrings do look like little bats hanging upside down, though, so that's charming and I love that her parasol is open, since the first year doll's was not open-able.

She accompanies Clawd Wolf, Clawdeen's brother (they have numerous siblings, having been born in a litter, so we may see more as the line continues). He's the cutest boy doll in the line so far although his groomed sideburns annoy me. His costume is likewise super cute, with nice details. His shirt is a fun print and he wears a cool turquoise and black checkered ascot with a jagged edge. His gold vest likewise has white lapels that are also jagged. He wears skinny jeans with turquoise threading down the seam and fashionably distressed gold high tops. His turquoise cap matches his belt which has a gold crescent moon buckle, which is a nice little wink. He includes his pet gargoyle dog, Rockseena, which is apparently delicious as Jelly Bean chewed his leg off.

The last of the re-issues is Lagoona Blue, the daughter of the Sea Creature. She was one of my favorites in the first line, but this one falls flat. Her right hand is remolded into a "hang loose" gesture. Her turquoise dress is just kind of boring. The metallic ruffle at the bottom has a mermaid-like scale pattern to it and the whole outfit is accented with fishnet. Get it? The real doll, does NOT have that black and white (?) polka dot pattern on it. It's replaced with just the metallic scale fabric. (Unless there are variations out there.) Annoyingly, she is wearing only one legging on her left leg and a sock on her right. Her earrings are fish bones. The heels of her pink jelly shoes resemble bubbles.

I'm not unhappy with her, she just doesn't excite me.

Finally, we have the highly sought-after new characters! (Well, we already had one, with Clawd Wolf, but new solo girl characters.) First is the ghost, Spectra Vondergeist. Folks are going nuts for her! She has white skin and her hands and feet are translucent. Because ghosts are known to rattle chains, that is her motif. Her purse has a chain for its handle. She has chains on the front of her bodice and around her neck. Her cuff looks like a shackle. Cutest of all, her heels are giant metal balls with chains wrapped around her boots. She also wears a faded purple skirt with glittery black mesh on top. Oh and her earrings are balls and chains.

She comes with her pet ferret, Rhuen, which is also partially transparent. And like Clawd's dog, was apparently delicious as I have no idea what fate befell him, but he is no longer with us. Overall, while I LIKE Spectra and having all new characters added, she's kind of plain, to be honest. Well, putting it in perspective, I like her better than the new Lagoona and Clawdeen, but she may rank lower than the rest.

And just now hitting stores is Abbey Bominable, the daughter of The Yetti. I LOVE Abbey! I don't get why all the fuss is over Spectra! Abbey's much better! She has sparkly blue skin to represent ice. Her sheer pink leggings are also sparkly. I LOVE her huge fur boots! She also has fur along the top of her dress, her arm warmers and headband. The pattern on her dress is very 80s and reminds me of Clawdeen's outfit, but in a pale blue, white, black and pink color scheme. Her hair is my favorite! It's white, with pink and baby blue streaks and iridescent strands throughout! It reminds me of Danse's, from Jem and I just love it and think it completes her look!

She has a pet wooly mammoth, Shiver (misspelled Shivver on the box!), but 'twould appear that Abbey herself is the morsel, as Jelly Bean mauled her and severed her hand. Don't worry, I bought a new one.

Her one fault is her earrings. Once again, the designers have gone mismatchy! Her right earring is a blue spike (icicle?) and her left is a pink snowflake. I just don't like mismatchy! Overall, though she and Draculaura are duking it out as the which is my favorite new doll.

There's not a new Ghoulia in the main set. They're still shipping the old one, along with Holt Hyde, since they were added to the first wave late. There was however a Comic Con exclusive of Ghoulia dressed as her favorite super hero Dead Fast. Ghoulia is always super cute in her nerd glasses. The costume is cute, too! It's mostly sparkly black, with red "leather" lightning bolts around her sleeves, her collar and around the hem of her tunic. Her belt is a white lightning bolt with red pods and she has tiny stylized wings on the backs of her boots. Also I like the white stripe down the front, because it reminds me of Wonder Woman.

She comes with really awesome accessories! A tiny convention pass, a copy of a Dead Fast comic (which she made herself) and a tiny sleeve to put it in, a tote bag emblazoned with her hero's picture on it, and a mint-on-card Dead Fast action figure! I wish I'd bought two! Because it's so rare, I'm not opening her, not that I plan on reselling her, but because I'd be worried about all the small pieces getting lost.

There are other new dolls as part of subsets, but I'm not buying the subsets, just the main line. I didn't even buy the Jackson Jeckyll doll, even though technically he was a new character (kinda), but he was in a bathing suit! Why would I want one doll in a bathing suit when the rest are in normal (and stylish) street clothes? Hopefully they'll reissue him in a school outfit.

I'm completely hooked on the main line! Otherwise, I may have passed on some of the re-issues, but I needed them to complete the set! And Mattel is shipping the new girls heavily, so fans have a better shot at getting them! So, good job, Mattel!

Mattel ComiCon Exclusives Edition

So Mattel has unveiled their ComiCon exclusives for this year. The above clip showcases some of the bigger name items. I like the massive movie version of Kilowog from Green Lantern, but since I don't plan on buying any other GL movie figures and I already have the comic version of Kilowog... PASS!

The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man seems really neat and CHECK OUT that amazing diorama! But I'm not that into Ghostbusters, so PASS!

Not a Voltron Fan, although I'm glad to see a Voltron figure that looks like the cartoon. The movie version is going to look all shitty and busted like the movie Transformers, where you can't tell who's who or who's good and who's evil, because they all just look like walking wreckage. Plus... the Voltron movie is set on EARTH! Um, have fun with that.

The big DC Universe Classics exclusive is Swamp Thing, a character who was off-limits to Mattel before, because Swamp Thing was technically a Vertigo character, belonging to their mature readers imprint. But they just re-introduced him into the DC Universe proper. It's a nicely made figure. The endo-skeleton joints are truly innovative. But I just plain don't want a Swamp Thing figure. If he were a mass-market figure, I'd pass, just like I have with Jonah Hex and The Metal Men. Just characters, I don't really care for and have no need to own, ESPECIALLY at inflated eBay prices.

They didn't mention this. It's a Back To The Future "secret" vehicle... um, is there more than one vehicle in BttF? Also, Mattel, maybe don't label your "secret vehicle" image "Delorean.jpg" Just sayin'.

The He-Fans (yeah, that's really what they're called) are pissed that Queen Marlena and Cringer weren't presented in the Attack of the Show clip. He-Fans are ALWAYS upset about SOMETHING. They're the needy, clingy girlfriend of nerdom. Mattel has continuously said they can't make toys based on the characters as they were depicted on the animated series, only in print materials that Mattel produced in the 80s. Yet... here these two are, looking like they stepped right off the TV screen. Except, I don't recall Marlena (He-Man and She-Ra's mom) ever slingin' a sword or doing anything action-oriented. I swear, all she ever did on the show was sit on that throne. Which, ironically, she can't even do as a toy, as her "dress" is molded rubber that fits over her alternate look, her astronaut suit:
Oh that's right! You forgot about that, didn't you?! Marlena was a human from Earth on the cartoon! She went into space, got sucked through a black hole and wound up on Eternia where she landed King Randor and became a queen! She's like the galactic Kate Middleton! Love the retro bubble helmet!

These are two characters that I think most fans never thought they'd see, the inactive Queen and cowardly Cringer. Fun choices for the fans, but I'm not breakin' my bank for them.

Last year, they did a Polly Pockets set with Polly and her pals dressed as Wonder Woman, Batgirl and Supergirl, which was super cute, but I just never really pursued it. Like it was cute, but obviously not cute enough that I bothered trying to acquire it. Once again, this goes back to the eBay thing. I'd buy it for whatever price they sold it for at the con, but I'm not paying more than that for it. This year, they are offering Polly, et. al. as She-Ra, Catra and fan-fave Frosta. Once again, supremely cute! But like $50 cute? Not so much.

I'd totes get this Frankenberry Hot Wheels car. I love cereal mascots!

This is the lamest exclusive they are offering, a Carol Ferris Barbie from Green Lantern. And I have ALL the DC heroine Barbies, but I don't want this one. LAME! Couldn't they do Barbie AS a Green Lantern? Or Barbie as one of the female Lanterns like Arisia or Boodika? Or better yet, Star Sapphire? Even a Ken as Hal Jordan Lantern would have been nice. This is just... off. Too drab and boring for any fan of Barbie's. Not "super" enough for comic book fans. I just don't know who this is aimed at.

The last DC Universe exclusive, is Superboy from the Young Justice cartoon series, in his Cadmus white suit, in his incubator tube. I'm on the fence about the YJ toy line. I feel like I already collect so much stuff, I don't know that I want to add a whole new line. And plain white suit Superboy just isn't that enticing. If it had been Aqualad, I'd have been all over that. Maybe even Robin, but Superboy is the most unlikeable member of the team, so far and he isn't even drawn as looking all sexy like he is in the comics, so... yeah, PASS!

And so, we come to my one MUST HAVE exclusive, Monster High's Ghoulia Yelps dressed in comic-inspired attire! I actually am ever-so-slightly surprised they didn't do another gray-scale doll like last year's Frankie Stein, which they poorly didn't promote at all, so most fans didn't even know that it was available until after they'd bought their limit of Mattel product! So the SDCC Frankie from last year was going for like $100 on eBay and FUCK THAT! Recently, the price has dropped significantly, because I think most Monster High fans felt the same way I did about it, "$100 for a doll I already have, just in black and white?! Foo' please!" But... dammit, Ghoulia is without a doubt my hands-down FAVE Monster High character and this is a NERDIER version? MUST!! HAVE!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

"There. Now let's go give those Injuns that saved our lives smallpox and steal their land!"

S0... let me think of the things I have to be thankful for this year.

1. My wonder, amazing husband. We may have our ups and downs, but there is no one I'd rather spend the rest of my life with. I have never known anyone so loving and wonderful and feel truly special and grateful!

2. My pain-in-the-ass stepson... he drives me nuts, but I couldn't imagine my life without him.

3. My most amazing friends... I love you all and hope you all know how much you mean to me!

4. Both of us having jobs, his being a real job that pays well, mine being... better than nothing. Having a house and living comfortably. These are hard times and people with a lot more have lost a their jobs and homes, so to still be comfortable and safe, makes me thankful!

5. Anyone who reads this blog... seriously, it's so all over the place and probably boring to some people, so if you check in, even if it's every so often, I appreciate it. I also really appreciate comments and feedback, ahem. But seriously, THANKS! I really enjoy writing it and I hope you enjoy reading it. It's my only writing gig right now and even though I don't make any money off of it, I get to write about stuff I love (and sometimes HATE), so it's the perfect gig. Thanks again!

6. The genius of Calvin Klein and his hiring of Kellan Lutz as his model for his latest line of undies. Seriously, I've gotten more mileage out of this than any other topic, except maybe Dazzler and Luke Cage!

7.The fact that it appears that Glee and The Walking Dead have gotten their act together... for now. They'll probably turn around and shit on me again next week, but I totally loved the last eps of both. Glee won me back by simply being sweet. The bromance between Finn and Kurt was just so charming and Finn won my heart all over again. (Also, am I the only one noticing that Rachel gets like ZERO screen time anymore? I'm not complaining!!!) I am apprehensive about Kurt being part of The Warblers at Sectionals rather than with New Directions, though. And The Walking Dead, despite being an all new, original storyline, it was a really INTERESTING one. The idea of Rick & Co. getting captured by a Latino gang seemed eye-rollingly stupid in the trailer, but there was a twist that I certainly didn't see coming and the story wound up being quite good! Well done! (I'm sure it helped that this episode was written by Robert Kirkman, the creator of the comic book.)

8.
Batwoman, the most unique, idiosyncratic mainstream super hero book out there. PLUS, the highest profile GLBT character in comics... but that's beside the point. J.H. Williams III's absolutely stunning and defiantly different artwork definitely helps! Just stunning, month after month! Also, Brightest Day. Hate to say it, but a lot of the DC Universe is a hot mess right now, so my main fave is this excellent book showcasing the majority of the classic Justice League, re-establishing their lives in the modern DCU. Plus, it heavily showcases Aquaman and Mera and the new Aqualad. Also, I'm thankful for one of my childhood faves, Mera being placed front and center in the new DCU. In the past couple of years, she's gotten a stunning Tonner doll, her very first action figure and been depicted on Smallville and Batman: The Brave & The Bold. Go on, girl!

Well... I'm certainly thankful for a lot more, but that about covers the highlights. Life, love, TV, comics... what more is there? Oh... toys! I'm thankful for my complete set of Monster High dolls and the fact that I got them at retail and don't have to pay $40 a piece for them. I'm thankful for all the fun DC stuff coming out now. The new streamlined Funko line is so much fun and DCUC while kind of a pain to collect, is THE definitive DC toy collection. Okay... like I said, there's more, but those are the biggies! Hope everyone has a wonderful day and another year of prosperity and happiness!

Wonder Wednesday 10-20-10 Halloween and Monster High Updates!

Most of the blogs I read have adopted a Halloween theme for the entire month of October and while I typically LOVE Halloween, and probably would have done the same, well... I wrote one blog about it this year and it was not a happy one. But as fate would have it, I am NOT going to Palm Springs! I think the whole reason we were going on Halloween was to go to some party, but once I expressed my frustration at the thought of going to some rich people party in cheap store-bought costumes, David and the two friends we were going with decided to back out of going to the party altogether! THEN WHY WERE WE GOING FOR HALLOWEEN?! But some other factors came up and now I'm not going so YAY!!! I get to go to Cathy's for The Weening! It will involve Just Dance 2, Thanksgiving Dinner and The Walking Dead premier! I asked about the Thanksgiving Dinner and she said things just spiraled out of control. Oh and I get to wear my Finn costume!
Oh, I have one more Halloween anecdote. Halloween at Target SUCKS!!! It's worse than Christmas in terms of how jacked up it gets. Let me ask you something. Okay, I GET that sometimes you want to try on a costume to make sure it fits, right? BUT if it doesn't WHY DO PEOPLE JUST THROW EVERYTHING ON THE GROUND?!?! How were you raised?!?! And WHY do people just put that crap on to walk around the store and then not buy it? That's actually kinda disgusting when you think about it! Like when people mash their face into the Pinpressions. I'm thinking, "You know like 500 kids who don't wash their hands after pooping have touched that, right?" It's the same for the Iron Man masks. I'm like, "Do you know how many filthy, germy faces that's been on?"

Oh, that wasn't even the anecdote! So, they put two rows of Halloween in F, my section. Okay, so what very few people know... if anyone, really... I am completely repulsed by latex Halloween masks! It's the material, it's just so... rubbery and squishy and gross and the WORST are the ones with that wispy gross fake hair! And they REEK!!! So of course, that's the aisle I get to straighten up every day. I have to like pick them up by the cardboard tag and even then, I only hold that with the tips of my index finger and thumb. And I have to hold my breath so as not to smell that rubbery STANK!!! And even then, EV-ER-Y time, I still feel the vomit welling up in the back of my throat! SO DISGUSTING!!! I HATE IT!!!

Ahem... happy thoughts...
So this week, my Monster High collection welcomed two new additions, Ghoulia Yelps, the zombie girl and Holt Hyde, the son of Mr. Hyde. Here is also a fun factoid that I learned this week. I'm not allowed to take stuff off the shelves and buy it as soon as the store opens. I have to physically walk outside and come back in. Huh. Woopsie.
This line has really taken off and is one of THE hot toys this year, so parents be warned. It seems that Lagoona Blue, the sea creature has become a fan favorite, but she wasn't supposed to be one of the stars, so not as many of her dolls went out as Frankie's and Draculaura's. But Mattel being Mattel, it seems they under-produced this line. We have been out of stock consistently since the beginning. The Mattel rep physically brought in the Dawn of the Dance line, pictured above. I passed. They're just not as cool as the regular line. They're "cheaper" looking, not as elaborate as the first. And they're repeated characters.
On the other hand, I jumped for joy at spotting Ghoulia! I was so excited by her, I walked away without even looking for Holt! (I came to my senses and went back of course!)
Ghoulia maintains the quality of the first batch. She may be my new favorite! I love her horn rimmed glasses! And her piano key belt and her cassette handbag! And her high heel Converse boots! She's the "brainy" one but speaks Zombie (which is just groaning) so the others can't understand her. Yeah, it's annoying. I don't like the cartoons, just the dolls!
I told Cathy that I strongly suspect Holt Hyde was actually supposed to be a Demon/Devil character but that Mattel probably changed it, so as not to offend Christians. But like, he has fiery hair and flames on his pants and all his other accessories and on the back of his box EVERY corny pun has something to do with fire/flames/blazes/etc. I could be wrong, of course. That's just my hypothesis. Because what do flames have to do with Mr. Hyde? I'm actually not a big fans of this doll. I like his face but not his clothes. I like that he wears skinny jeans, but the purple color is odd and I don't like his Michael Jackson-y jacket. But, I mean, hell, why would I NOT want a complete collection.

A new line has been revealed, Gloom Beach:
These actually underwhelm me worse than Dawn of the Dance! I hate dolls in bathing suits. What's the appeal? They're FASHION dolls wearing very little clothing! Also, um... why isn't Lagoona, the SEA CREATURE and CAPTAIN OF THE SWIM TEAM included? Like I said, she's a breakout character and this would be a way to get her into more kids' hands! Instead, you have Draculaura, a VAMPIRE who would BURST INTO FLAMES at the beach and Frankie Stein who is electrically charged and would probably SHORT OUT in the water! DUH!!!

In the center is "normie" Jackson Jekyll, the alter ego of Holt Hyde. I want a Jackson Jekyll doll, but not in a stupid bathing suit! He wouldn't fit in at all with my "school clothes" dolls! Also, according to Cathy, most little girls don't even want the boys in a doll collection. I'm all for more boys, but I think doing a normal-looking one in a series that's all about colorful monsters may be a mistake. I think that's why the Cleo DeNile/Deuce Gorgon boxed set isn't selling well. Cleo may look too normal!

But hopefully, little girls will like them and buy them so the line can continue. I hope they keep adding characters, though. I'm not interested in buying the same ones over and over in different outfits. Especially if they're LAME outfits. There are still a lot of possibilities! I think if they are cute enough, they could get away with a witch or demon without offending anyone. It would be neat if they did a giant character, like the child of a King Kong or Godzilla type. Oh and a ghost! That would be easy, I think! It might be hard to pull off like a hunchback or ogre or something, but there are still some options out there.

08-06-10 Beautiful Monsters Part II

Remember me blogging about those Tinkerbell dolls a few months ago? Okay, while I enjoyed the Tinkerbell dolls, I had no intention of opening them. They were cute. I had them upstairs for a while, but after a few months, I put them in a box and stuck them down in the basement. But the Monster High dolls?! LOVE!!! Best dolls since Bratz first began! So, lightbulb! I went down to the basement and pulled out the Tinkerbell dolls and took them back to Target!
Shhh! They were older than three months, but I just said I didn't have my receipt and wanted store credit. Cha-ching! They had to refund me the lowest price they sold for in the last 90s days, which was $8.99, like a dollar less than I paid, but oh well. I only had enough for three, so of course I got Draculaura, Frankie Stein and Lagoona Blue!
SASSY SCARY COOL!!!

When I opened Draculaura, her hand fell off! Then both of Lagoona's arms fell of at the elbow! Were these really this shoddy?! Then I recalled reading that some higher end dolls are meant to come apart so they are easier to dress. I'm going to stick with that answer.
Besides those three being my biggest MUST-HAVES in the line, I also rationalized that Clawdeen Wolf wouldn't sell well at my store because no one ever buys black dolls there. And there were PLENTY of the two packs featuring Cleo De Nile and Deuce Gorgon...
Ohhhhhhh... Deuce like MeDUSa. Wow, I'm slow to catch onto things sometimes. Even so, "deuce" is still code for #2.

So anyway, I figured getting Clawdeen would be no sweat later on and neither would the two-pack. OH HO! Guess again! The next day when I went to work, they were almost ALL gone! (Cathy thinks it was because of this blog, whipping people into a Monster doll buying frenzy. Mmmm?) All the Lagoonas were gone and there were maybe 2 Frankies and 1 Clawdeen left. There were several Draculauras. I think she's the star of the line, so we had more of her than the others. The two-packs were still there in full-force , though.
Also, in the little display, they list another character, Ghoulia Yelps, a zombie girl who's BFFs with Cleo.
I found this pic, but I don't know if that's an actual doll or a custom that someone made. I'm not that impressed with it, so hopefully it's the latter.

Anyway, it's payday so you KNOW I had to get my rump up to Target first thing and do a little shopping.
Score! Clawdeen was still there. She was the one I was worried about. And incidentally, as you may or may not know, as a collector, you don't just buy the first of a toy that you find on the shelf! You want to examine each one, to make sure you get the one with the nicest paint job. And with dolls versus action figures, you also have to make sure their hair is the best and their clothes aren't jacked up in some way. It's much more involved than buying the freshest milk! Even though there was only one Clawdeen, luckily, she still looked great, so yay!

Oh, I should point out that I took the electric Razor scooter. Yeah, I kinda knew getting stuff home might be tricky, but I wasn't buying that much. That was the plan, anyway. But, I had coupons, it's Team Member Appreciation Month, so I get an extra 10% off all Target brands AND I had an extra 10% off pass! So it's not like I went buck wild, but we HAVE been needing a new set of pots and pans. Ours are old and the bottoms are kinda bowed so they don't sit flat on the burners. AND our big lid broke months ago, so I've been using a plate to cover my pots and pans. Ghetto!!! So there was a set on sale for $24.99, which... I mean, I'm sure it's not the finest set of cookware around, but it's still a great price, especially with the extra 10% off, so I had to get that.

Well, that eliminated my getting everything home on the Razor. I had to borrow the shopping cart, push it home, then walk it back and retrieve the scooter. I'm sure it was quite a sight! Like being homeless for an hour! But I mean, Target's what? Half a mile from my house? It wasn't that hard. Just a little odd-looking, I'm sure.

Wonder Wednesday 08-04-10 Beautiful Monsters!

Last night, Cathy and I spent over an hour texting back and forth, gleefully over our newest TV obsession, Adventure Time on the Cartoon Network!
It follows the adventures of Jake the Dog and Finn the Human as they gallivant through a magical world that resembles Candy Land on heavy, heavy hallucinogens. I love how RACY it can be, like in one episode, Jake's body was turned into that of a stumpy fat human and through the whole episode, he kept fondling his man boobs! And in one episode, Finn says, "There was a lava giant in our front yard. He was soooooooo hot!" To which Jake suggestively replies, "Mmm hmmmm?!" And Finn is like, "No, I didn't mean in a sexy way!" Homo-erotic male taunting? On a cartoon?! For KIDS?! I love it!!!

Also, we both knew we recognized some of the voices (like George Takei as Ricardio!), especially Jake's! It was driving me nuts, not being able to figure it out, so I looked it and it was John DiMaggio a.k.a. Bender from Futurama! So obvious, listening to him now, as it's the EXACT SAME CHARACTER! (He also does the voice of Aquaman on The Brave & The Bold!)
So anyway, did anyone try downloading the songs I posted yesterday? Just wondering if that worked.

Okay, so a woman and her two daughters were checking out at the Electronics kiosk yesterday and she was writing a check... no really, people still do that!!!... and she asked if it was the first and she's written 7-_ and I said, "No, it's the third." And she said, "Oh, it's not 7 anymore is it?" and changed it to an 8. Then I said, "Yeah, summer's almost over." And then one of her daughters almost started crying. Ooops! Ha ha! I forgot how important summer is to kids. In my opinion, though, this summer's been a Sunuva Bitch! I don't think I have ever looked forward to snow and ice as much as I do now! My aunt and her stupid republican cohorts can suck Al Gore's dick for mocking global warming last winter! Inyaface!

My favorite part of working in Entertainment/Electronics is that it abuts Toys and they are currently redoing that entire department in preparation for Christmas. I'm so giddy at all the new toys, I'm practically vibrating the whole time as I see them putting up new colorful shelf liner and interactive displays and then stocking all the pretty, pretty boxes and packages! Eeeeeee!!!! They brought back Bratz! I thought those were dead and gone, but... is anything ever truly dead and gone in toys? They keep recycling the same concepts over and over. There's YET ANOTHER new version of Strawberry Shortcake. Once again, lame.

But the BEST new toys... MONSTER HIGH!
They're like Bratz but MONSTERS! They have a whole fixture and a display unit with all the dolls inside looking AWESOME!!!
My favorite is Draculara (with her pet bat, Count Fabulous!)! I love her Edwardian meets Slutty Goth outfit!

I can't decide if my second favorite is Lagoona Blue:Based on the Creature From The Black Lagoon... I love her pretty aquamarine skin and the spit curl in her hair! And I LOVE how she has a pet piranha in a fish-bowl purse!

Or, Frankie Stein:
I love her Bride of Frankenstein hair, brushed long and straight and the stitches and bolts and such. So hard to choose... I choose BOTH! Ha!
Cleo De Nile is the least monstrous, but I still love her! She's mostly covered with mummy wrappings, but with a slutty fabulous negligee top and African style rings around her neck! I am not so impressed with her boyfriend Deuce Gorgon. Deuce means Dookie! He's TOO skinny hipster... but to get Cleo, you have to buy them together. We shall see.
This is the first time the black girl is my least favorite. Clawdeen Wolf is a Werewolf character, but she comes across more as a WereCAT. I mean, I LIKE her, but not as much as the others. I'll probably still get them all! SO FABULOUS!
Not my collection... YET! Oh I can't WAIT! It took all my will power to NOT buy Draculara, yesterday! But we're having to budget this week on account of my not working for a week. We better not sell out before I get my grubby hands on all of them! Oh I could just pee my pants, I want them so bad!
